The Farm

Originally bought by Simon as an oasis from the hustle of working in Te Rapa, the dream never became a reality as his business took off and he built his workshop instead. In 2015 an opportunity presented itself in an older home that was being demolished to make way for more commercial use in Te Rapa. The idea sparked and a transport company was called.

This was an awesome experience. Apart from some fun we had with council about set backs for the position of the place, everything went well. We had a really tiny budget for this one and very little kids in tow which presented it's own fun.

We always come up with grand names for our properties. We told the girls this was "the farm" even though the land is too small to run anything much. We spent a couple of weekends out there, particularly while Simon added the finishing touched, but we couldn't afford to keep her for our little country getaway so she was sold.

A slightly retro theme was chosen because of the tiles we couldn't afford to replace in the kitchen and the price of black and white lino squares being within out budget. We added a ranch slider and deck at the front which was a beautiful sunny spot to enjoy the rural outlook. The biggest stress we had with this project was how close we came to having no money in the bank. We really stretched ourselves and our first sale feel through, so when the final sale came through we breathed a sigh of relief. If that sale had not gone through we couldn't have afforded groceries the next week!
